Branding
The Missing Piece of the Puzzle
You read and hear a LOT about marketing for actors. But before you can begin to market yourself to the industry you need to understand and embrace your brand. Branding is the piece of the marketing puzzle that most actors and teachers leave out. Your job as an actor is to fully understand what you’re selling. To know exactly what you bring to the table, your essence or Brand.
What is your strength? What makes you unique? Where exactly do you fit in the theatrical, on camera and commercial worlds? What shows are out there that you could be cast in right now - not five years from now? The point is you need to be specific and fully embrace your essence, your bread and butter.
So how do you do that? You need to focus on your Brand as a whole. Embracing your brand is the key to getting your foot in the door in this business. There are 5 essential brand components that we break down in our intensives and classes, but to understand the concept of brand better let’s look at one component- type.
Yes, the word type makes some cringe. But trust that by doing it for yourself you’ll actually make it easier for industry folks to cast you. Most actors know their generic type but they never explore any deeper than ingĂ©nue, leading man/lady or character. But the word character is key. Character is really your essence. It can be quirky, dark, gothic, bubbly, scary, arrogant, bitchy, etc. You need to know what kind of character you are, what essence you really portray and carry with you. Not what you think you are but what you know you are from doing your research. You need to be clear on your type in order to brand yourself properly. This is the foundation of your actor marketing.
Let us help you break down your brand. Through a series of exercises either in one of our classes, intensives, or private coaching, we will isolate what makes you unique and marketable.
